Longitudinal investigations made on two cattle farms in Hodonin district from January 1995 to June 1997 included bulk fodder (n = 11), feed mixtures (n = 16), drinking water (n = 13), stable dust (n = 15), road surface dust (n = 7), soil (n = 6), cow hair (n = 40), bulk milk samples (n = 27), and muscles, liver, kidneys and fat of cows (n = 21) at three to four years of age. The samples were examined for contents of six harmful pollutants: mercury, cadmium, lead, gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane (Lindane), DDT sum and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB - Delor 106). Taking into account sanitary regulations effective in the Czech Republic at the time of our observations, hygienic limits of these pollutants were exceeded: lead in drinking water in one sample (0.0673 mg/l)
